I bought this book for my writing / English class. I think I got a good deal on it compared to the book store. My only complaint is the book is very heavy and fragile. The pages tear very easily. The book can be written in, I assume they made it this way.

The material is a little weird. They take too long to simplify rhetorical arguments, and some of the essays for examples given weren't that great. I can't remember this one essay, I believe it was over trying to argue in a fair and balanced view without going offensive. More like an opposites attract for common goal type essay that fell flat. It just wasn't good, and the arguments of both side were too weak and unexplained. But that was my only complaint

Great book needed it for school and still have it, I like the variety of readings, and that's probably the biggest strength of the book; I don't know of a single other reader with such a range, and a well-chosen range at that. The organization (section naming, particularly) could use some work - lots of repetition and names that don't really tell me anything when I'm searching for something. I also don't see myself using any of the large amount of the book dedicated to talking about MLA, APA, or visual arguments given there's so many digital resources that do it better.

REALLY unimpressed with the condition of this book. I was surprised when I received this as a rental textbook (granted, it was about $35) and saw that the cover was beat up, ripped in several places. A few pages seemed loose, and the spine was cracked.I'm not quite half-way through my class this semester and the book straight-up ripped in half when I shifted it closer to me on my desk today! This is ridiculous, and they better not charge me for "damage," because the condition the book was in when it came to be isn't my fault. The book is now in two halves because of it's already-split spine. I can't believe it.

I believe that the textbook "Everything's an Argument/with Readings" has a really great technique in showing that anything is a possible argument. I really love how the book, edition 5, is up to date in the happenings in the world around us, which makes it easier to relate to each argument discussed. This book really goes into great depth in explaining how to read an argument, write an argument, how to recognize style and present arguments, how to evaluate arguments, and arguments itself. I found this book to be very helpful in understanding different contexts of argumentation and representation in each context. There are so many things found in this book that I would have never looked at as an argument. There are so many different types of arguments surrounding us in forms of pictures, articles, videos, cartoons, and many more. The evaluations of this book truly opened my eyes to the different views on not only argumentation but also the knowledge and ideas that go into an argument. This is a book you need to read if you want to know anything and everything about argumentation.

Its a required book for school..think that says it all (my college sons words lol).

Very useful. Used it for my English college class and saved money by renting it. It has a few examples of everything so you are able to learn how to write properly.

My son rented this book for a community college course. This worked great! Will definitely consider again in the future.

Aurélien Broussal-Derval holds master’s degrees in strength and conditioning, sport and rehabilitation, and performance engineering. He also has a degree in sport sciences from the National Institute of Sport and Physical Education (INSEP) in Paris, France. He is the author of French best-sellers Modern Physique Training, Judo Physique Training, Proprioception, and Field Tests: Protocols for Measuring Sport Performance. Broussal-Derval’s career as a strength and conditioning coach is highlighted by his training of Olympic medalists, professional athletes, the French Olympic weightlifting team, the French boxing teams, and the British and Russian judo teams. He currently leads research for France Volleyball and is technical director to one of the world’s premier martial arts studios, the prestigious Cercle Tissier in Vincennes. Broussal-Derval lives in Paris.

Stéphane Ganneau is a professional illustrator and graphic designer. After training in applied arts in Nantes, France, he launched his career in advertising and product design. From The New England Journal of Medicine I once knew a hematologist who could recognize a patient from the blood smear -- the teardrop cells, giant platelets, and nucleated red cells signaled the presence in the waiting room of the woman with myelofibrosis. Back then, hematologists examined the blood smear of virtually every patient they saw in consultation. Looking at the blood smear and bone marrow aspirate gave them a vivid connection to the patient and was as essential as the physical examination. Today, regrettably, many hematologists have little time to practice the art of examining the blood smear. Instead, they look at a ticket printed by a machine that produces numerical values and a histogram depicting measurements of any cell in the blood. I have not made a study of the reasons for the shift from the microscope to the ticket, but time and money are surely important. In the United States, hematologists receive no payment for the time and skill required to examine and interpret a blood smear. Cardiologists, by contrast, do receive a fee for interpreting an electrocardiogram. Moreover, the pressures on specialty trainees to become experts in both hematology and oncology have reduced the time available for the intensive study of blood smears and bone marrow preparations. Instead of doing the looking themselves, they depend on technicians, many of whom are superb morphologists, but without the vital connection with the patient.

The program displays on command almost every morphologic aspect of blood and bone marrow cells. Three sections, for medical students, laboratory scientists, and hematologists, present the material from an elementary to an advanced level. One can proceed systematically, browse, or search. For me, the best feature is "Test," which consists of hundreds of questions at increasingly difficult levels of knowledge. After choosing a question, the user is shown a photograph of a blood or bone marrow smear (or a biopsy specimen), a clinical finding (e.g., a mass in the neck), or some other image, plus a multiple-choice question, usually in the form, "What is the diagnosis?" A challenging teacher, "Test" will surely humble even the most sophisticated hematologist. My weaknesses in identifying parasites and interpreting karyotypes were quickly revealed.

There is more here than morphology. Another part of the program, "Learn," shows the main clinical features of numerous hematologic conditions. Under sickle cell anemia, for example, the program displays radiographic images of osteonecrosis, gallstones, and the acute chest syndrome; a magnetic resonance image of cerebral infarction; and electrophoretic patterns of normal and abnormal hemoglobins. In the section on chronic lymphocytic leukemia, one finds demonstrations of immunophenotyping and two complications of the disease, autoimmune hemolytic anemia and herpes zoster. Clicking on "More" brings up a brief, instructive commentary on the image. The lack of a way to print the useful tables and definitions of oncogenes and CD numbers for later reference is one of the program's few shortcomings.
